Do orange lily bulbs around pear tree roots harm the fruit, like make it bitter ? These look like daylilies, not sure if some wild type, very hardy and prolific.
June 15, 2021 at 8:16 pm ReplyNot sure about those bulbs; I usually just try not to have “stuff” growing near fruit trees. The pear picking time might be what needs attention. Picked late, they develop grit cells and won’t keep long before rotting (often starting in at the core.) Picked too early, they will have little sugar and could potentially taste bitter. Try setting a couple pears on the kitchen counter for 4 days or so; if they are still very hard after 4 days, they were probably picked too early.
