I have birds pecking holes in the few oranges I have this year (probably only 5 or 6).  Rather than cover the BIG tree with the net I bought a few years ago, I just covered each individual orange with a plastic grocery bag.  My question is:  will this hurt the (green yet) oranges, cause them to rot, cause them to not ripen, or any other bad thing????  Or is there something better I can cover each orange with??

Good question, for sure. Haven’t tried it with plastic bags before but it sure seems easier to set up and tie the knot!

I’d wonder if the fruit gets to breathe enough though. In direct sun it might work like a mini-greenhouse. Maybe with a few pin-head size holes to let air flow in and out a bit?

I’ve seen people wrap them in old newspapers before. Works really well and won’t lead to rotting.
