Can’t tell if New Zealand tea tree (leptospermum) is dying

We recently planted 2 of these shrubs, and they’re looking incredibly dried out. When we got them from the nursery their leaves were dark green tinged with red, but now they’re red verging on yellow-orange. We’ve kept them well watered, although they are in full sun.Does anyone have any ideas on what to do with them? I don’t think they’re actually dried out – the branches are still flexible, and it almost looks like there are buds on them. Do they need pruning? Do we need to move them to a less sunny spot? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!
Hehe it’s true that from the pictures it really seems dead… maybe it was grilled by the sun? The good news, as you say, is that it’s still flexible. If you scratch some of the bark off you’ll probably notice it’s greenish-moist underneath.
I’d set up a shade cloth if I were you. Maybe it was in a sheltered part of the nursery and needs protection for a season.

I agree with Fatzo, it seems that they have problems adjusting to the full sun at this time. I’d recommend the same thing, a bit of protection will help them survive. Moving them to a different location will again disrupt them and I’m afraid, instead of finally adjusting, they wouldn’t be able to cope another change.
I hope they’ve still got greenish bark!  🙂
