hi
I am trying to “harvest” a few blackthorn staves in an attempt to make a walking stick.
Whilst I can find many hawthorn bushes, I am struggling to identify or find blackthorn.
I am told they are fairly abundant.
When I try to identify one using the leaf, the tell tale thorns are nowhere to be found!
Can anyone help me to positively identify my tree?
cheers
phil

It’s true that both can be confusing especially with names already somewhat the same. Here’s a link that’s well done to help identify the difference between hawthorn and blackthorn.
Would be happy to hear a feedback, if this is helpful to you.
Cheers,
R. Ferrine
