    Dear Sir/Madam,

We have in our front garden, on a residential street in central Plymouth, Devon, a beautiful tree.  We have had it for about 10 years and it is about 16ft high.  Every winter it has lots (but not masses) of tiny yellow flowers and the evergreen foliage has a purple  tinge.  It is much admired by passers-by, one of whom said he thought it was a ‘Mimosa Purpureum’.  I have looked this up but can find no reference to it.  Is he right?

Hello, I think he may be on to something. I know there’s a mimosa that has dark leaves, really purple through and through. They mention it in this article. It’s the Acacia baileyana ‘Purpurea’. I saw one once and it was surprising, not many purple trees out there.
