I have three dogs: the mother, and two offspring from different batches. One is male, the other female… of course now the female is in heat and her half-brother is running around her.

I have a feeling this isn’t going to end well. What are the chances of having problems if she gets pregnant? How can I keep them apart, for how long do I have to be careful? Thanks a lot for your help.

It all boils down to pedigree. Is it a purebred? Then it’ll make for lots of health issues. But if it’s just a street mut, chances are they won’t run into problems, not at the first generation at any rate.

Respectfully, that’s not something you should allow to happen.

    Siblings? No-no

even if you don’t get problems the first time round, bad genes build up.

One solution I have for my dog is to keep her indoors during when she’s in heat. I walk her twice a day anyways, I can control what happens then. It’s over in a few days so it’s ok.
