My mimosa snapped off at the base after becoming overladen with snow. It was around 10ft talk but pretty slender. So in order to rescue something from this disaster should I replant the broken tree or simply encourage growth from the ground level trunk?

See this article which is actually I think would be useful for you: https://www.nature-and-garden.com/gardening/propagate-mimosa-tree-bark.html
