After at least a year of battling against unknown sickness,  oak tree finally laid to rest.  🙁  Would it be okay to plant the replacement in the same spot? Or there might be a risk of contamination?

I’m sorry to hear your loss of a magnificent tree! It’s not really ideal because what was causing the disease might still be in the soil. If you do that, you might end up having to deal with a sick tree again.  3 feet away from the old spot is what’s recommended.
