There is a strange yellowish substance coming out of the base of my tomato plant. It looks like spray foam that’s still wet and the consistency of whipped cream. Any thoughts?

From what I’ve found, it’s a lot like a type of “slime mold” (Fuligo species). Here’s another picture that looks very similar (found it on flickr here), you can see the white part where the fibers weave through the mulch and the golden crust on top.
Maybe in a day or two it changes appearance a lot? Seems it’s not dangerous for the tomato (or us, for that matter) since it’s only feeding on the mulch. It’s actually probably helpful for the tomato!
