How to get rid of ant hills in the lawn

I have had problems with ants in my lawn for several years now. Every year number of ant hills just increases. Can anyone give advice how to get rid of them? Thank you!
What method do you prefer, home-made or something professional? I tried pouring boiling water in every entrance I could find – it worked – just need several attempts. In terms of side effects, the area where you pour water can be very wet and muddy and grass can turn brown, even to the point of dying. If you prefer something quick, then a chemical option is for you.
It’s not a big problem if the outdoor area of your house has a small number of ants, but in the event of massive infestation or if the ants start to creep into the interior of your house, you will have to take action.
