I have several senecio cylindricus in my garden that are growing profusely and look pretty healthy overall. I was doing some clean up and noticed some leaves at the top part of the plant are curling! Why is this? Is it diseased?

September 23, 2020 at 7:48 am ReplyI’m not sure what the scarring is. Perhaps it’s from months ago when I sprayed soapy water on them to treat mealybugs (I made another post about that, which you left advice for me on😁) The curling seems to be on new growth
But this is the only plant that has the curled leaves, and i have many of these plants in the garden. Im hoping it’s not a disease that’s going to spread to the other plants.

Does it rest at a lower level than other plants, perhaps it’s worth digging it out a bit and resting it atop a mound to make sure drainage is perfect. Sometimes even well-prepared soil with gravel and stuff clogs up after a while, especially if the original soil below is heavy.
I had that in our vegetable bed, we had thick mulch, as in almost a foot, which in time settled to a layer 4 inches thick. Potatoes were growing there and we realized they were only growing in the mulch layer and hadn’t penetrated the heavier original soil underneath. A few plants got sickly in a spot where the ground dipped down a bit and the mulch was close to rotting in that area.
