My large potted olive tree has yellow fungus on the branches. How can I treat this? Thanks in advance.

If I’m not mistaken it looks a lot like lichen – Perhaps a close-up picture can help us be sure of it. It’s normally perfectly harmless on your tree! So the lichen itself won’t hurt your tree. It would happily grow on a rock if that’s all it had.

But – there’s a but.. – it does seem to me like you have an awful lot of dead branches there. The fact that lichen is growing there points to bark not rejuvenating. There doesn’t seem to be very many green, live stems in there.  😯  😯

Maybe a first round you could do is to prune off all the dead wood. If you’re not sure if a twig or branch is dead, scratch it a bit with a knife: if there’s a slick, green layer underneath then it’s still alive.

Where are you from, is it end of summer in your place?

Indeed the problem isn’t the lichen growing because it’s self-sustainable and therefore totally harmless to the tree. The question here is why did the branches die resulting to being a perfect habitat for lichen. I suspect you had very hot summer the past years? Lack of water causes branches to die off.
