Kilmarnock mini weeping willow

    Hi my willow trees branches are growing along the soil would I be able to trim them back now or do I have to wait tia

    I’d trim them right away. There’s no need to wait, especially if you just trim it very low, like a few inches above the ground level. Don’t cut any higher though because then you’ll be cutting the Spring catkins off and you won’t have any of those next Spring. If you want more long branches from top to bottom, cut them after the Spring blooming high up and the stub will split into two or three new branches that will then dangle down to the ground again… repeat!

    If you want though you can let one or two rest along the top of a pot and bury them a bit in soil in the pot and hold it down with a hoop and that way the branches will sprout roots in the buried part over the winter and spring and summer and then in Fall you can cut the branches loose and you’ll have two more brand new trees!
